My Identity Is Not My Disability

What is your identity rooted in? I hope it’s not your physical appearance! As for my identity, it is not my physical disabilities; rather it is rooted in who I am in Christ Jesus. Yet I feel a need to talk about this issue of identity.

Let’s get past the intro and go into a little more detail. Shall we?

If you read a variety of my articles then you will notice that I don’t talk too much about my disabilities unless it’s relevant to the article. Why? When I started my original blog site, I did do some research on the idea of being a disability blogger. The problem is, I never felt comfortable with the idea of making my appearance the issue.

I quickly learned that my heart is to share how Jesus healed my heart and helped me to overcome depression, fear of rejection and other such issues. My issues were common to everyone and I certainly had my own take.

With recent events and a couple of unrelated YouTube videos centering on disability advocacy, it seems a good idea to talk about the topic of disability. Hopefully, you did enjoy the video.

YouTube – Seeing Through New Lens

There is a side story to this video and you may be able to help me. When I originally started my YouTube channel, it was meant to compliment my old blog site. I didn’t try to replicate my blog post in video format.

Would you believe those original videos are my most popular though collecting dust? I must have done something, right.

I thought that I’d try it, again. Like the old videos, I am sharing what happened after I finished writing the blog post. Yes, it is related to the title and what I wrote. I’d like to get back to what I did, originally. What is your thoughts?

Learning To See Through a Hope Filled Lens in Tough Times

How does one see through such lens when there is so much turmoil around us? I will certainly not claim this to be easy. If anything, it is a challenging endeavor. Did you notice that I said nothing about a lens of positivity or optimism? Rather, I am speaking of a pair of hope-filled lens and these lenses are quite different.

Would you like to learn what it means to be a hope-filled realist? If you’re an optimist, this article will still be of use to you; especially in tough time. Contrary to popular myths, a realist does not automatically make you into a pessimist. It just mean that you see the reality of a situation. It means that you have a choice.

Will you choose the path of criticism and negativity? Will you see the reality of a situation and say, “It does not have to be this way! Let’s find a hopeful solution and move forward!” What path will you choose?

How Do We Practice Discernment?

What comes to your mind when you hear the word, “discernment”? Does sound a lot like judgement? If so, I have good news for you. Discernment and judgement are not the same thing. If anything, it is on the opposite side of the same coin. With discernment, you are asking questions and sometimes interpreting what you’re sensing.

You can find my podcast episodes on Spotify, Apple and other podcasting platform

With judgement, you are not asking questions. No, you are making a decision on what you are seeing or hearing. Often times, it is based on what you know. Whereas, discernment requires humility for one simple reason. Would you be asking questions if you already made a decision? I don’t think so. Do you?

Would you like to learn how to practice discernment in a healthy way that is quite biblical? How so? Keep reading. I’ll be giving you some practical tips in how Jesus helped me in discerning the truth in certain situations. Am I talking about discerning spirits? Keep reading and you’ll find out.
