Ever onward, ever forward along this road I travel
Ever onward, ever forward I go and yet I’m not alone
Though I pass many a place of joy
I am not alone for there is one rejoicing with me
Though I pass many a place of sorrow
I am not alone for I am comforted by a dear friend
Though I pass many a place of trouble
I am not alone for I am strengthenedby a great counsellor
Ever onward, ever forward I journey on this road
Gladly I go, for I am not alone
Though I never know where this road will take me
I will press onward, for one greater than I goes with me
Though there be an inn, up ahead, I will not turn aside to it
For my time has not yet come
Lord, I thank you for being my constant travelling companion
For you have rejoiced with me in those places of joy
For you have comforted me in those places of sorrow
For you have strengthed me in those places of trouble
Ever onward, ever forward travel along this road, I gladly go
If the above poem sounds familiar, it is because my poem is loosely based on a poem by J.R.R. Tolkien called “The Road”. You can find it in “Lord of the Rings” or somewhere on the Internet. Have fun!
Thanks for the tweet, Barry! I did like reading your peom, and some of your other posts too. Your writing style flows so smoothly, and I appreciate your candid voice. I’ll definitely be coming back for more 🙂
